June 2 - Stuart Young’s the New Kid on the Block

Stuart Young joins the Tartan Silk team, for a work experience position in the Edinburgh office. Stuart’s taken the time to fill us in on what he’s been up to and why he’s chosen a carrer in Public Relations...

"After leaving Bathgate Academy in 2005 I have been studying at Queen Margaret University where I originally began a course in Media and Culture. As part of a Public Relations related module during this course we had to design and produce a detailed campaign strategy for Barnardos children’s charity and present our ideas during a filmed press conference. My group and I produced the Barnardos Bheroes Campaign where we devised a strategy to achieve better publicity and involvement with the charity. To our delight the Bheroes Campaign received the highest mark of the year with some of our ideas taken on board by Barnardos themselves. As a result of our success I changed my course of study to a Public Relations degree and have since been involved with several campaign projects for clients including Portobello High School and Friends of Chernobyl’s Children (FOCC).

In June of 2008, after completing my third year of study, I joined Tartan Silk Public Relations for an opportunity to work with a professional team and gain an insight into the fast paced world of Public Relations.

Interesting Fact: I have a signed picture of Homer Simpson from creator Matt Groening.

Idea of Luxury: Sitting in the sunshine with a group of friends with a barbeque burning and a cold drink in my hand”
