Tartan Silk has, for some time, worked with the Common Thread Group, which offers creative solutions for looked after children in a residential environment and training for those who work with them. The CT team aims to deliver the highest quality of care to young people and create care environments that benefit from continued excellence from staff.


Common Thread has fabulous resources at its disposal. These include an independent school, a range of therapies, sailing, music and arts, as well as access to work experience and training opportunities. In addition, the group also has a professional team that works unceasingly to maintain a stable home environment.


Common Thread provides short, medium and long term care and is a model of excellence to deliver the highest quality of care to young people. Tartan Silk was brought on board to increase the group’s visibility and change public perception of children in residential care homes.


Tartan Silk recently organised a sponsored parliamentary reception, which was hosted by David Whitton MSP and attended by a variety of MSPs, social care professionals and stakeholders throughout the sector. This reception allowed Common Thread to showcase its theories and the work it does to a variety of movers and shakers throughout Scotland, and also launched its bursary award for postgraduate students studying courses in the School of Health and Social Sciences at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh.


Tartan Silk has successfully worked to raise Common Thread’s profile through a variety of trade, local and national publications such as The Guardian Online Forum, The Scotsman, The Herald, SSSC Newsletter, Kirkintilloch Herald and Dumfries and Galloway Standard.
