Established in 1993 the Isle of Skye Smokehouse was initially formed to supply local hotels and restaurants fresh and smoked seafood, direct from the fishermen and boats that caught them. Before long they were supplying some of Scotland’s most well known hotels and restaurants, including the Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh, Skibo Castle in Dornoch, Harrods and the Royal Scotsman.
Thanks to the success of their seafood in these establishments, demand then took off direct from consumers resulting in the creation of their online shop (www.skye-seafood.co.uk) and a mail order brochure. Since then consumers have been able to have the very best premium quality seafood delivered directly to their door.
Each of their smoked products is created in a different way, using a process which has been developed following many years of scrupulous attention to detail and a passion for guaranteeing that they offer the consumer the best they possibly can. Their Isle of Skye Smoked Salmon is created using hand-reared freedom foods farmed salmon that is uniquely cured for much longer than usual - five days to be precise - and then smoked using old whisky barrel chips from the smokehouse's local distillery to create a smoked salmon unlike any other. This dedication to producing the very best products resulted in their Isle of Skye Smoked Salmon beating off stiff competition in 2008 to be crowned the winner of the Smoked Salmon World Cup.
