Trade links between India and Scotland will be thrown into the spotlight today (April 1) as Fort William welcomes a very special guest.
The Consul General of India Anil Kumar Anand will be making an offical visit to the world's leading commercial diver and ROV training centre, The Underwater Centre (TUC), on April 1.
On hand to meet Mr. Anand will be the Provost of Lochaber, Cllr Allan Henderson, together with the founder of Crannog Concept Ltd. and TUC owner, Finlay Finlayson, TUC manager Steve Ham and some of the centre’s current students.
The aim of the visit is to strengthen economic links between the countries and build on the relationship the Consul currently enjoys with the Admiralty. It is also an ideal opportunity to showcase an indigenous firm, which leads its field, before key members of the Indian business community.
Established in 1975, The Underwater Centre is the only school to offer all Health and Safety Executive (HSE) approved qualifications in Air and Mixed Gas diver training.
Nestled at the foot of Ben Nevis, it boasts one of the best Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) courses anywhere in the world and includes the opportunity to gain hands-on ROV flying experience in these realistic open-sea conditions. Unlike most other seawater training sites, The Underwater Centre’s sheltered waters allow diving and ROV flying in almost all weathers.
Courses on offer include professional scuba diving; inshore and off-shore air diving; mixed gas saturation diving; IMCA approved diver medic; underwater inspection; assistance life support technician and premium ROV.
Students have access to a fully enclosed dive training pool, cutting/burning/welding rooms, fully equipped lecture rooms, two barges providing wet/dry bell training facilities, shower and wash rooms, fully furnished student accommodation and restaurant.
